Parking is best on weekdays and mornings. I go there alot and have never been disappointed in food, coffee or service. It's a nice outing to a unique area of San Diego with a cozy place for latte and croissants. Early risers can walk the beach or out to the end of the pier for great views of the coast. If you are interested in shopping, many of the stores don't open til 10. A little trip for breakfast will let you take in the local SoCal surf culture and Newport Avenue at the same time. They only take cash but it won't break the bank to have breakfast there. I bought a great surfboard picture there for my house. They are for sale with lots to choose from, reasonable to even cheap prices. I found succulent arrangements (jade plants, aloe and some unique ones I've never seen before) in little pots scattered all around. It IS a jungle ! All around are carefully tended potted plants and lots of greenery interspersed with paintings and knick-knacks for sale. Newspapers for sale across the street at the Ocean Beach Hotel. Or you can enjoy your coffee on the front patio and see the ocean and passers-by on the street. "The Jungle" has a central open air courtyard inside beyond where you place your order is sunny and warm and has lots of tables, benches and lawn chairs to let you relax with the morning paper surrounded by potted plants and local art. If you don't have a dog, you can get your dog fix by walking there after breakfast for a look around. Dog Beach is 400 yards up the beach where you can get rid of the leash and let your favorite companion have a good romp in the waves or on trails in the sand dunes by the San Diego River. Any well-behaved doggie is welcome here, very laid back. Everyone seems to have dogs in Ocean Beach and takes them everywhere. Bagels very fresh with plenty of choices. At Jungle Java you can get great coffee/tea/smoothies/chai and an assortment of bakery goodies, oatmeal and bagels. I really love these I bought the bundle so I could give each of my friends one, and they all love them too However, the thread/leash on them ripped easily. Morning java will fuel you for a stroll down Newport to check out restaurants for later, everything from Mexican, Italian, seafood, tapas, sushi or the greatest burgers in the world at Hodad's There are so many bars in two blocks you could do a pub crawl all afternoon and evening and never walk more than 200 yards. There are lots of unique shops for beach wear, skate and surf clothes and accessories and jewelry, art, and plenty of restaurants. This is in the heart of the eclectic neighborhood of Ocean Beach on Newport Avenue, the main drag. You can see the morning surfers at the pier from the front door of the cafe. Less than a hundred yards from the second longest pier on the west coast in Ocean Beach, Jungle Java really seems like a jungle.
